As Many As the Sands of the Sea...

We all make promises. We know that God makes promises called covenants. The covenants God makes are two way. He promises a portion if we do our part. God's promise to Abram was that God "will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing" (Genesis 12:2).

Russell M. Nelson spoke about Abraham talking specifically about the covenants made.
The covenant God made with Abraham13 and later reaffirmed with Isaac14 and Jacob15 is of transcendent significance. It contained several promises, including:
  • Jesus the Christ would be born through Abraham’s lineage.
  • Abraham’s posterity would be numerous, entitled to an eternal increase, and also entitled to bear the priesthood.
  • Abraham would become a father of many nations.
  • Certain lands would be inherited by his posterity.
  • All nations of the earth would be blessed by his seed.16
  • And that covenant would be everlasting—even through “a thousand generations.”17

Abraham's children have blessed the nations of the world, and God has kept his promise.

Isn't it great that God can always be counted on to keep His promises?
