Double-decker Fudge

We made this as part of our giving activity during Joy School. The children loved to pour the ingredients and eat the different chips.

Each had the opportunity to stir to watch the white mixture turn orange or brown.

Since it takes time to set up they will get to create little packages at our next meeting to take home to give to someone special they love.

Ingredients

4 1/2 cups sugar
1 7-ounce jar (1 pint) marshmallow creme
2 6-ounce cans (1 1/3 cups) evaporated milk
1/2 cup butter or margarine
Dash salt
1 6-ounce (1 cup) semisweet chocolate pieces
1 6-ounce (1 cup) butter scotch pieces

In 3-quart saucepan, combine sugar, marshmallow creme, evaporated milk, butter or margarine, and salt cook and stir over medium heat till mixture boils.

Boil gently, stirring frequently, for 5 minutes.

Divide mixture in half. To one half (about 3 cups) add chocolate pieces; stir till melted and blended. Pour into buttered 13x9x2-inch pan. To remaining half of marshmallow mixture, add the butterscotch pieces, beating until smooth. (If necessary, beat butterscotch mixture with rotary beater till pieces are melted and mixture is smooth.) Pour over chocolate layer; cool. Cut in pieces.

Notes: I added another layer with white chocolate and split the mixture into the thirds. Also I poured the hot mixture over the top of the chips so they would have a chance to melt and not need to use my mixer. It worked very well.
