Penuche Bonbons

1/2 cup soft butter
1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups sifted flour
1/8 teaspoon salt

Mix butter, sugar and vanilla. Stir in flour and salt. Mix well by hand. Wrap 1 slightly rounded teaspoonful of dough around a half date stuffed with a walnut or pecan. Place close together on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 12 to 15 minutes at 350 until set but not brown. Cool. Frost by dipping cookie into icing. Makes 20 to 25.

Icing: Mix1cup sifted confectioner's sugar, 2 tablespoons cream, 1 teaspoon vanilla. Add food coloring.
