Date-Nut Torte

4 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 cup fine bread crumbs
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 cups finely cut pitted dates
1 cup chopped walnuts

1. Beat eggs thoroughly.
2. Add sugar gradually.
3. Stir in bread crumbs and baking powder.
4. Add dates and nuts. Stir.
5. Spread in well-greased 9-inch square pan. Bake in moderate oven (350 deg.F) for about 30 to 35 minutes. Do not over bake. Mixture should still be gooey when it is done.
6. Serve with whipped cream. Garnish with cherry with stem on it. Makes about 12 servings.
